A Brief History in Nigeria
Ethiopian Airlines has a long and distinguished presence in Nigeria: one of the oldest international carriers still operating in the country, the airline has been flying Nigeria routes since the 1960s. Over six decades of adorning the Nigerian skies day in day out carrying goods and passengers in safety . No mishap has been recorded in their name as regards their operations in Nigeria. Over decades the airline has built a reputation for excellence, being honoured as “Best International Airline in Nigeria” for its service and performance. This is among the several awards they have won over the years in various tourism and aviation awards . It is still on record no airline connects Nigeria to Africa and the world like Etheopian Airlines. Our involvement in the African tourism for over three decades is a proof to that reality .

They were at the forefront of introducing some of the most modern aircraft in Africa, such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350, which raised standards of comfort and reliability. Like earlier observed their efforts to expand its network across five continents, thereby connecting Nigeria more effectively to the global market. Is second to none at least in the few decades we have followed and observed them. They have continued to build a strong cargo and passenger operations that support trade, business travel and tourism between Africa and the world.

Of course, no journey is without its challenges. The airline has faced operational and regulatory headwinds as is common in Africa’s aviation sector including service disruptions in certain markets and evolving passenger rights expectations. Still, its giant strides far outweigh the setbacks, especially in Nigeria where it continues to grow and invest.
The additional Abuja–Addis Ababa flights bring a host of advantages:
- Enhanced connectivity: Nigeria’s travellers now have smoother access to Ethiopia’s hub (Addis Ababa), and from there, to destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe and America — increasing inbound and outbound tourism opportunities.
- Tourism growth: With more frequent flights, Nigeria’s hospitality industry benefits — hotels, tour operators and service providers stand to gain as more tourists travel for leisure, culture or business.
- Regional trade & travel: The upgraded connectivity supports business travellers, cultural exchange, and cargo logistics, which all contribute to the broader travel-ecosystem and hospitality supply chain in Nigeria.
- Health and conference tourism: With improved flight options, Nigeria becomes more accessible for regional conferences, medical tourism and high-end travel, strengthening the hospitality sector’s potential.

As Ethiopian Airlines continues its role as a bridge between Nigeria and the world, we look forward to welcoming more travellers and supporting the growth of tourism, business and hospitality across our shared markets.
